[12 March, 2018 by Jon Meyer] This past weekend, March 10th and 11th, the sun was shining on the MVLA 05B Pumas Blue team and Coach Carlos Menjivar Jr. as they scored a third-place victory in the 2018 Copita Surf Tournament. Saturday, the team started their tournament track with a hard-fought battle against the West Coast Soccer Earthquakes 05B team, that ultimately, yielded a 0-0 tie. Quickly rebounding from the first match, the boys came out strong with a 1-0 victory against a tough Ajax United 05B Green.
The team came out bright at early Sunday morning and played a fast, intense and dramatic Semi-Finals match against FC Sporting Munich 05. Jumping to an early 2-0 lead only minutes into the game, MVLA did their best to limit a surging FC Sporting team to four goals. Not to be outdone, the Pumas fought back scoring two more goals, ending the match in a 4-4 tie. Following a nail-biting round of penalty kicks, MVLA conceded the match (and opportunity to play in the finals) to FC Sporting. Not quite ready to go home, the Pumas settled for the 3rd Place Consolation match against Davis Legacy 05 Red, in which they cruised to a 3-1 victory.
Congratulations to MVLA 05B Pumas Blue team and Coach Carlos Menjivar Jr.!
